Global Leadership Forum was established by Prof. Adel Safty when he was Head of the UN Mission in Amman, Jordan, in 1997. It is a community of leaders—practitioners and scholars from all sectors who share a conception of leadership that is people-focused, learning-driven, and committed to human development. The GLF has attracted participants from over 100 countries and speakers and facilitators from national and local governments, private sector corporations, educational institutions, and governmental and nongovernmental organizations. The first three GLFs were held in Amman, Jordan, sponsored by the government of Jordan, the UN, and other organizations. The following five GLF were held in Istanbul, Turkey, sponsored by a variety of institutions including the UN, the World Bank, the University of Bahcesehir, Istanbul Commerce University, The Center for Creative Leadership, The International Partnership for Service Learning (New York), the Academy for Educational Development (Washington), and the Dom Cabral Foundation (Brazil). The mission of the Global Leadership Forum is to promote, in publications and in forums open to all, commitment to leadership for human development through the promotion of good governance, socially responsible management, and multilateral cooperation in whatever field: in public policy administrations, in private sector corporations, in educational institutions, in intergovernmental, nongovernmental, and youth organizations. There is a positive correlation between human development as defined in the various UN Human Development Reports, and the interconnectedness of peace, democracy, and sustainable development. Leadership for human development is therefore facilitated by and committed to an environment of peace, democracy, and sustainable development. To create and sustain such an environment is the responsibility of all, but it is facilitated by a partnership between public institutions, intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations, educational institutions, and socially responsible private sector corporations sharing the same goals and working together to help achieve them. The goal of the Global Leadership Forum is to facilitate such alliances, build partnerships, create networks, and use relational leadership as an effective tool to promote the mission of leadership for human development. The Global Leadership Forum has an international Advisory Council that includes Dr. Leo Bruno (Brazil), Dr. Andrea Campbell (USA), Mr. Rupert-Douglas Bates (England), Ms. Marina Tyasto (Russia), Ms. Angelika Borovikova (Austria), Dr. Carol Allais (South Africa), the Right-Honorable Dr. Mansoor Elagab (Sudan), Dr. Mahy Abel Latif (Egypt), Mr. Leong Sze Huan (Singapore) and Dr. Hafiza Golandaz (India). Prof. Safty also established the first UNESCO Leadership Chair (Jordan) and the second (Turkey) to help promote the interconnectedness of peace, democracy, and sustainable development, as well as the crucial role that leadership plays to advance human development. In 2006-2007 Adel Safty has been working at Siberian Academy for Public Administration (SAPA) as a distinguished professor and, besides teaching students and conducting leadership seminars, he has applied together with Rector Eugeny Boyko for the third UNESCO Leadership Chair.
